I Cant Believe I'm Talking About This

I never thought I would ever talk about politics. I HATE politics! Never really been involved, NEVER really cared. Always relied on my father to know what was currently going on in the world. Up until NOW! I think Mark has everything to do with it. When we were engaged I promised him that I would take the time to get to know what he is passionate about. So our conversations would be more enriched and that he wouldn't seek others to get our cup filled. I believe that the catasphories that are currently going on right now has also motivated me to be more involved. First I don't affiliate my self with ANY PARTY. I just don't like people automatically assuming they know what I think about diverse issues just because I claim a party. Not ALL Republicans or Democrats think and believe the same things. I just HATE LABELING. So now that I have clarified my stance, I will let you know what I think and feel about the presidential candidates. First our selection isn't that great for BOTH parties. I'm just thinking realistically here. If I was an employer or anyone for that matter, I would try my best to get an employee that is WELL QUALIFIED for the job. Not just any Joe shmoe. These are very IMPORTANT positions here. These POSITIONS have a lot of POWER to make CRITICAL decisions that would affect EVERY single person in our Nation. This is not a time to have CHARITY for our candidates nor leniency on their EXPERIENCE. Not just any experience but REAL experience that is RELEVANT to the CRITICAL issues we are now facing. They either have it or they DON'T! I want to select the BEST person (QUALIFIED that is) for the job. I think Mccain is definitely QuAlIfIeD for the position BUT I don't think his VP Sarah Palin is. Lets be REAL here for a second. If something were to happen to Mccain which is likely (The guy is OLD). Palin WOULD be the President. I don't know about you, but that makes me VERY UNEASY! Great woman probably a great person, BUT NO RELEVANT EXPERIENCE! Yes, she is the Governor of Alaska BUT HOW MANY PEOPLE LIVE IN ALASKA, ANYWAY? The population of Alaska is not even close to 1% of our Nations population. REPEAT, NOT even CLOSE TO 1% OF OUR NATION'S POPULATION. And we want to give her a shot at the 2ND HIGHEST POSITION IN AMERICA. Blows my mind! Oh yah, that's right, these are the last days. Hmmm. It just bothers me that people only want to vote for her because she is a woman. That's DUMB! We are already making history believe me. The media is being so MANIPULATIVE and Lenient on her. NO ONE WAS EASY ON HILARY CLINTON. They ATTACKED her with TOUGH questions, ALWAYS put her on the SPOT, and yet she STOOD her ground. She was Qualified! I was really shocked with the debate last night. I thought she did a good job. BUT how long do you think she PRACTICED! It definitely was a different Palin then some of her last interviews. It appeared that she studied certain topics thoroughly, BUT WHEN she was faced with some RELEVANT questions that we all wanted answered she DIDN'T answer them. She just stuck with what she knew. I'm just saying if you gave a high schooler addition problems, of course they would do well. Another thing which I think is very important. Is the power of EXAMPLE! Didn't Mccain CHEAT on his wife? That sends a HUGE message to me. If he can't be FAITHFUL, LOYAL OR COMMITTED to ONE person what makes you think he could for 300 million people. The SANCTITY of MARRIAGE is very IMPORTANT! And is under attack. We need a leader who believes that the FAMILY is IMPORTANT not by word but by EXAMPLE.
Also I feel that this War in Iraq has been LONG and UGLY. Many precious lives have been shed, things need to CHANGE & IMPROVE for the GOOD. Obama is not Dumb. He is not going to pull out the troops if things are to RISKY, but he has a GOAL IN MIND. One that would make a difference on both Nations. Mccain is COMPLACENT on the way things are going. He doesn't want to change a thing. That's MESSED UP! Our Nation is in HUGE FINANCIAL DEBT. We are borrowing MONEY from other countries. That scares ME! What happened to Us? We used to be able to fund our OWN. That could lead to potential wars with other countries, especially if for some odd reason, they just didn't want to help out any more. WE need to be more INDEPENDENT on ENERGY and use alternative resources to avoid dependency on other countries. I think we need some one DIFFERENT. Some one who is sick and tired of the way things are currently running. We need EFFECTIVE CHANGE! We need new ENERGY! I really think Obama will make those changes that our country needs. OK, I'M DONE! Hope I didn't offend anyone especially those Pallin fans. I feel that we are ALL entitled to our opinion and that we should RESPECT the way that people think. So if you think differently, SERIOUSLY it's OKAY! I wont judge you and it definitely would not affect our relationship. Promise!

i'm not much of a politics person either and vote for the person--not the party, but what makes me nervous about obama is he supports abortion & homosexual marriage. those are two HUGE issues in my book and makes me worried about the future in his hands especially concerning families.

There is no perfect candidate in my eyes so we have to look at the pros and cons of each and then go from there. I agree with you when you say EXAMPLE is so important. They all know how to talk the talk, but do they really do it or have they really done it? You and I share A LOT of the same opinions.

Good talking politics with ya!!!

i am so proud of you. I know you are like me and until recently havent been very involved.
i think both have their issues...they are both human, both made mistakes...to be really informed i suggest more research on both of them. There is stuff the media hasnt put out.
i still try not to get upset over one or the other. I will vote but bottom line...William and I are in the Army so whoever becomes President we will support...bottom line. Whoever becomes President will need this whole nations support. These are not easy times. There is a lot going on. ok...i hate talking politics but I am proud of both us...it is very important to stand by your beliefs...vote an educated vote and then pray everyday for our President and our Country. Its not an easy job and I dont envy anyone who decides to take it on.

Nita, I completely agree with you. McCain does have more experience than all of the other candidates, but beyond that all I can see is an appetite for war and a terrible example (did you know that beyond cheating on his first wife, he divorced her only after she was in a crippling accident?).

The fact is, however, Obama doesn't have a lot more experience than Palin. I am most definitely an Obama supporter, but I do want to point out that attacking Palins experience doesn't really help anyones case, because Obama's in the same situation. I have enough confidence in Obamas moral compass to overlook that, however, and it seems like you do too. :)

Really quickly as a response to Heidi (hi, I don't know you by the way. I promise this isn't a personal attack and I'm positive you must be a wonderful person.) We live in a country with a very diverse population. There are people who downright do NOT believe as we do in any way shape or form. Now, I am not a supporter of abortion at all, but I am more of a supporter of abortion than I am of Palins views of forcing a no-abortion law upon everyone--including rape victims and endangered mothers. Part of the LDS religion (I'm assuming you're LDS, please don't take offense if you're not) is letting people believe what they may. I think it is a form of showing love to allow others practice their own belief. I do not support gay marriage, but I do believe that those people who struggle with that temptation and do not believe as we do have a right to be happy and have similar rights. I'd prefer it if it wasn't called 'marriage', but they should not be punished on a national level for something that they do not believe in.

That's my take on it, at least.

The reality is: I'm sick of the election period. Other issues in CA are very draining as well! Nov. 4th will be a day of liberation!

sorry i can't not write back to aubrey (hello friend :) if she never reads this---at least nita will hear me out.
i guess the reason why i am so worried about these specific issues (homosexual marriage & abortion) is that they are REALITY here in california right now. we have 2 prop about these issues. elder ballard, elder cook and l. whitney clayton gave a special broadcast to the people of california last week which shows you how important it is for us to be knowledgeable on the subject, namely gay marriage. you can see clips by this link. http://newsroom.lds.org/ldsnewsroom/eng/news-releases-stories/church-readies-members-on-proposition-8
Homosexual marriage (which is having to do with Prop 8 here) it is NOT about RIGHTS or about not loving or caring about the people. The gay population HAS ALL OF THE SAME RIGHTS as a married couple does...RIGHT NOW. This is a HUGE deal with Heavenly Fathers plan and has to do with the definition of marriage.
As you said with the abortion issue, abortion should be able to be considered in "rape victims and endangered mothers". That is just what McCain believes. Palin may be a different story. Hopefully the team of pres. and vp can work together for the best plan.(..back to gay marriage, Biden is on for keeping it between a man and a women). I guess there are 2 parts to the president (pres and vp) to make issues exciting. :)
I don't know if I just made a big loop or if any of this made sense. i do know that it is important to research and look into more than just what the media says because there is a lot that is not being said. It is late and "i can't believe i'm talking about this" either :) AGAIN.
Sorry for the novel, but after the elder's broadcast, i wanted to make sure i was doing my part to make things more clear as Ballard said.
Hopefully whomever gets this unenvied job gets all of our prayers going for him that he may do the best job he can.

Heidi,

It is true that Biden said that he wants to keep marriage between a man and a woman. He told that to the nation at the end of the VP debate. However, he officially opposes Prop 8.

See http://www.sanfranciscosentinel.com/?p=16934.

What? How can a person say he supports keeping marriage between a man and a woman and then officially oppose a measure that would protect it?

I've learned by sad experience these past several months that politicians will say one thing to please the audience, even though they believe and plan to vote differently. Sad.
